Steel Angle Machining

June 10, 2005

To provide added strength to the connection between the wooden posts and the footers that support the house, pieces of steel angle were machined to fit under the existing structural connections.

Two precise holes had to be drilled through each piece of angle to facilitate installation of the bolt from the concrete footer, and the bolt that would go through the wooden post.

Using the equipment in the Clark School of Engineering's machine shop, Construction Superintendant Mike Boteler, Project Manager Rob Murray, and Assistant Project Manager Dan Vlacich completed the task quickly.  Vlacich commented, "this is probably the one time during the project we will need something like a drill press, and lucky for us, the Engineering School Machine Shop was happy to help us out."
