The footings must be placed accurately and precisely. Any geometric errors at this stage would affect the integrity of the entire construction process.
The team first established an east-west line for the south side of the house. The precise distance from corner to corner, dictated by the construction drawings, was laid out using a transit and tape. Starting from this line, the opposite corners of the house were located, checked, and re-checked with diagonal measurements. Finally, the center of each footing was measured and marked with paint and P-K survey nails.
The paved surface made marking easy, but the team had to take care that all future parts of the house and ramp, as well as future truck and forklift routes, avoided the lightpole in the middle of the lot.
