The University of Maryland participated in the inaugural Solar Decathlon competition held in 2002. Designing and building the house was a tremendous learning experience for the first Maryland Solar Decathlon Team.
The University of Maryland is justifiably proud of its 4th place performance in the 2002 Solar Decathlon. The Maryland home not only showcased the practicality of solar energy in residential desgin, but also demonstrated the ability of Maryland students to plan, manage, and complete a major, multi-year interdisciplinary design project.
The 2005 team is building on that success with an even better project and product for the 2005 Solar Decathlon!
